Always wanted to learn the drums?
Now's the time to get your groove on!
Why take drum lessons?
Here are three good reasons!
1. Play your favorite songs
Coldplay, Chappell Roan, the Temptations, Miles Davis, K-Pop Demon Hunters—we play the music that you love! Think about one of your favorite songs, and then imagine being in the drummer's seat!
Here are just a few songs that I've taught to countless total beginners:
2. Revolutionize listening to music
My students are always telling me how learning the drums has completely changed how it feels to listen to music. If you love listening to music now, get ready for it to be even more exciting!
3. Understand the music you love
Why did your favorite bands or artists make the musical decisions they made that make you love their music so much? The more you play, the easier it will be to answer that question!
My job as a teacher is to guide you on your journey with the drums so that you can know the joy of making music and be changed by the experience!

What to expect in your first lesson
2. Getting to know you
What songs, bands, or artists resonate with you? What makes you want to try this?
3. Your first song
You will learn to play a full song in just a few minutes! Don't believe me? I've done this hundreds of times with total beginners and I've never met anyone who couldn't do it. My secret: you already know how!
1. Explore the instrument
I think of music as playing with sound. What sounds can you make on the drums? What sounds remind you of the music you love?

Meet your teacher
My name is Julian Drumwright; I'm a drummer and drum teacher based in Washington, DC. I went professional at the age of 17, and I've preformed with Grammy-winning artists such as Danilo Pérez and Luis Perdomo. In 2023 I was one of just twenty students to receive a full-tuition scholarship to attend the prestigious Master of Music in Global Jazz program at Berklee College of Music. Now I've made it my mission to bring the quality education I experienced at Berklee to the comfort of your home!
I often joke that teaching is in my blood since both of my parents are teachers, and while most of my education has been focused on performance, I take my role as an educator every bit as seriously. I know how my life has been transformed by the influence of great teachers, such as Billy Kilson, Joe Lovano, and Danilo Pérez, and I know how a good teacher can be the difference between someone giving up after a few weeks or staying with it, discovering a lifelong love for music.
I believe music has the power to transform each of us. My job as a teacher is to guide you on your journey with the drums so that you can know the joy of making music and be changed by the experience!
No two students share the same goals, experiences, or interests, so I believe that all material should be tailored to each individual student. I've taught everyone from total beginners to near professionals in jazz, rock, pop, R&B, Brazilian music, Afro-Cuban music, and more. What you're passionate about is what we will work on!
